Caption: | A post van of the Royal Mail parked in astreet in Winchcombe in the Cotswolds,Gloucestershire, BritainWinchcombe is a small, unspoilt Cotswold town where you will still find the traditional Butchers, Bakers and Greengrocers. To the visitor, time has stood still and life is very much in the slow lane compared to the hustle and bustle of bigger towns and cities. Winchcombe is an ideal base for walking in the Cotswolds being at the intersection of the Cotswold Way, the Gloucestershire Way, the Wardens Way, the Windrush Way, the Wychavon Way and the unofficial St Kenelm's Way. The town's railway station is served by the restored Great Western Railway that runs from nearby Toddington to Cheltenham race course. In the nearby wood of Humblebee, the very woods that JRR Tolkien wandered before he created the magnificent “Lord of the Rings” Sudeley castle, a stately home is situated just outside the town. |
