Christ angel
Every two years a young Nuremberg woman between 16 and 19 years of age is chosen as the Christmas Angel for a two-year period performing a lot of charity work in the city.
For 2007/8, the Nuremberg Christmas Angel is Rebekka Volland.
On the Friday before the first Advent Sunday, for many decades, the Christmas Angel is draped in her white and golden gown with long blond curls (wig) and her golden crown, she officially opens the Nuremberg Christmas Market (the oldest in Germany dating back to the 16th century) by reciting a solemn prologue with her trumpeters on the balcony of the Frauren Kirche ( woman’s church) overlooking the city’s main square, Hauptmarkt crowded with visitors with many from around the world. |
