Founded in 1143 by Cistercian monks. Sweden's first archbishop, Stefan, was buried in the chancel and Ulf Gudmarsson (St Birgitta's husband) was buried in the north chapel. After becoming very powerful by 1500, it was disolved in the 1530s and much of the stone removed for building material.
