Fine art photography is more about capturing what you see and creating a work of art rather than documenting something or someone.
As a fine art photographer your camera is used as a tool to make an art piece and display an idea, message or emotion to the audience or viewer. The idea, message or emotion could be as simple as a single word, for example, solitary or could represent a whole concept, for xample, London After Dark.
Generally, there are four main types of fine art photography.
Landscape & Coastal
Landscape and coastal fine art features landscapes such as rocks, trees, mountains and seas as compositional elements, made up of light, texture and various tones.
These images then become an interpretation of the landscape rather than a literal representation or documentation of an area or natural element. These are particularly beautiful when displayed in black and white as they show the "bare bones" of the landscape or coastal area.
Still Life
Still life epicts an inanimate subject matter, typically, focusing on the details of the subject matter, textures, tones and light. Some examples include food photography or floral photography.
Architecture & Interior
This fine art photography focuses on capturing buildings and other structures as well as interiors. Architectual photographers are often skilled in the use of specialised techniques and equipment.
Street Life
Street life photography features people in candid situations in public places. Street life photographs tend to mirror images of society or show intimate views of historic moments. They display unmanipulated scenes with, often, unaware subjects.
As a fine art photographer, you will want your website to not only be well-designed but also functional.
The majority of fine art photographers tend to design their website with their images in mind. This typically means a clean, minimalist design with elegant typefaces and simple colour schemes, allowing your images to really sing.
As most fine art photographers make the majority of their sales online, it's important to consider how your clients will view and purchase your images.
In terms of privacy settings, unless you have created images as a commission for a particular client, you will likely want your images to be accessible and viewable by all your visitors. Therefore, we would recommend setting your privacy settings to "public".

Social media is a great tool for business. If you have social media profiles it's a good idea to make it as easy as possible for your visitors to not only find but also follow you. You can do this by linking your social media profiles to your website. This can be done from anywhere on your site but, typically, the most popular places are your website footer, website header and contact page.
Pop-Up Boxes
Pop-ups allow you to isolate a visitor's attention to ensure that they see your most important information. This could be your social media links, to check out a special offer, to view your new collection of images or to sign up to your mailing list.
A pop-up box appears periodically on your site, according to your chosen schedule. For example, you can choose to display your pop-up box on just one web page or on every page. You can also choose to display different pop-ups on different web pages. This allows you to really customise the client experience.
Notification Bars
Notification bars are mainly used as either an announcement bar or a cookie bar.
An announcement bar is typically used to display current, important information to your clients and should be updated fairly regularly. Announcement bars could be used to display information such as special offers and discounts, seasonal announcements, holiday breaks and other important announcements, for example, Covid-19 pandemic updates.
Alternatively, a cookie bar is used to link to your cookie and privacy policy so that visitors can read, should they want to, how you handle their information and data. A cookie policy is required on any website using persistent cookies i.e. if you are offering gift vouchers to customers.
If in doubt, we would recommend that you always display a cookie policy, just to be on the safe side!
Introduce your client to their private gallery using beautiful cover photos. A collection's cover photo displays one large, full-screen image with the collection title in the centre. The image is selected by you and the settings can be customised to best suit the collection requirements. You can also select a different image and settings for each collection, giving you complete control over the appearance of each client gallery.

Using a custom watermark allows you to customise the appearance of your images to best suit your needs. You can also display a different watermark on different collections allowing you to customise the appearance on a collection-by-collection.

As a fine art photographer, you will most likely want to focus your efforts on selling prints, and other photographic products. However, you could also consider selling products and services such as gift vouchers or workshop and training courses.
